Magomet Gadzhiyev


Magomet Imadutinovich Gadzhiyev was a Soviet Navy submarine commander and Hero of the Soviet Union. He fought and died during World War II.

Gadzhiev was an ethnic Avar, born into a peasant family in the Megeb area of Dagestan. He joined the navy in 1925 and graduated from the Frunze Higher Naval School in 1932. He was appointed to the submarine division of the Black Sea Fleet and was second in command of the AG class submarine A2. He subsequently commanded the submarines M9 and SCH117.
